Nameplates & Machine Plates
Materials for permanently legible technical information on machines, equipment and systems. Suitable engraving materials allow manufacturer information, serial numbers, performance data, QR codes and safety information to be marked precisely and permanently.
Durable Identification for Machines and Systems
Nameplates and machine plates provide clear identification of machines, equipment and technical systems. The identification should remain permanently legible and be matched to the relevant operating conditions.
Depending on the application, factors such as UV resistance, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, material thickness, surface finish and the required processing method all play an important role.
Typical Information on Nameplates
Technical plates can contain a range of fixed and variable information. Depending on the material, this information can be applied by laser engraving, laser marking or rotary engraving.
Our Material Recommendations for Nameplates
The right material depends on the location of use, processing method, desired appearance and environmental conditions. For nameplates and machine plates, we particularly recommend the following INNOGRAV materials.
LaserAcryl 1
LaserAcryl 1 is a versatile engraving material for high contrast nameplates, machine identification and technical labelling. Its microthin surface layer enables fine engraving and precise reproduction of text, symbols, serial numbers and codes.
- Laser engraving and rotary engraving
- UV stable
- Wide range of colour combinations
- 1.6 mm material thickness
- For interior and exterior use
Aluminium G (matt)
Aluminium G (matt) is a double sided anodised aluminium with a brushed, matte surface. The ALMG3 alloy is specially designed for rotary engraving and is suitable for high quality nameplates, machine plates and technical identification.
- Double sided anodised aluminium
- Brushed, matte finish
- For rotary and diamond engraving
- Weather resistant
- Available in a wide range of material thicknesses
- For interior and exterior use
Aluminium G (Colours, matt)
Aluminium G (Colours, matt) is anodised aluminium with a brushed surface in a range of colours. The material is suitable for rotary engraving and laser marking. Laser marking produces a light contrast on the coloured surface.
- Anodised aluminium
- Brushed, matte finish
- Laser marking and rotary engraving
- Light contrast with laser marking
- Available in several colours
- For interior and exterior use
Stainless Steel (V2A)
Stainless Steel (V2A) is suitable for high quality and robust nameplates and machine plates. Stainless steel 1.4301 offers excellent corrosion resistance and is suitable for technical identification in demanding environments.
- Stainless steel 1.4301 (V2A)
- Brushed on one side
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- 0.8 mm material thickness
- Laser marking with a suitable marking compound such as CerMark
- For interior and exterior use
Which Material Is Suitable for Which Nameplate?
| Application | Recommendation | Key Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Plastic nameplates | LaserAcryl 1 | High contrast engraving and a wide range of colours |
| Rotary engraved aluminium nameplates | Aluminium G (matt) | Anodised aluminium for rotary and diamond engraving |
| Coloured aluminium nameplates | Aluminium G (Colours, matt) | Coloured surface with light laser marking contrast |
| Serial numbers and QR codes | LaserAcryl 1 / Aluminium G (Colours, matt) | Suitable for fine, high contrast identification |
| High quality metal nameplates | Stainless Steel (V2A) | Corrosion resistant and robust |
| Exterior applications | LaserAcryl 1 / Aluminium G (matt) / Aluminium G (Colours, matt) / Stainless Steel (V2A) | Material selection depends on processing method and desired appearance |
What Should Be Considered When Choosing Nameplate Materials?
Readability
Manufacturer information, serial numbers, performance data and codes should be displayed with high contrast and remain permanently legible.
Application Environment
Interior use, exterior use, moisture, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations all influence the selection of the right material.
Material & Surface Finish
Plastic, anodised aluminium and stainless steel provide different properties and appearances. The material should be selected to match the technical application.
Processing Method
LaserAcryl 1 can be laser engraved and rotary engraved. Aluminium G (matt) is particularly suitable for rotary and diamond engraving. Aluminium G (Colours, matt) is also suitable for laser marking. Stainless Steel (V2A) can be laser marked with a suitable marking compound such as CerMark.
Mounting
Depending on the application, nameplates can be bonded, screwed or riveted in place. Format, material thickness and the required mounting method should therefore also be considered when selecting a material.
Custom Cuts for Nameplates
Many INNOGRAV engraving materials can be ordered as full sheets, strips or custom cut pieces. This enables nameplates and machine plates to be processed efficiently in a wide range of formats.
Depending on the material and version, additional processing such as drilled holes, rounded corners or self adhesive backing is available.
