Before the nitrocellulose lacquer is applied, the metallic surface must be thoroughly cleaned. Dirt, grease and other contaminants should be removed to ensure that the paint adheres well and an even finish is achieved. This can be done with a suitable cleaning agent and a lint-free cloth. The nitro lacquer is applied to the engraving with a fine brush or a special needle. It is important that the lacquer is applied evenly in the recesses of the engraving without flowing over the edges. This step requires a steady hand and precision to achieve a clean result. After the varnish has been applied, excess varnish often remains on the surface. This should be carefully removed with a soft cloth or a special solvent before the varnish dries completely. Care must be taken not to damage the lacquer in the engraving. The nitrocellulose lacquer usually dries quickly. Nevertheless, it should be given sufficient time to harden to ensure maximum durability. A transparent sealing can be applied to provide additional protection for the engraving. This protects the paint from abrasion and external influences.
